Snom M3 Complete Set

Snom M3 Complete Set Review

DECT is a great technology. It allows signals to travel further with less interference (not in the 2.8 or 5 GHz frequency of 802.11). Signals travel at 1.9 GHz. The encoding has less overhead than 802.11. With less interference and lower overhead, sound quality is excellent and battery draw is less. In a test that I made, I was able to talk at about 250 feet through a stone wall, a building and into another building. Falling short of where I wanted the signal to reach. However, it was quite impressive. Our 802.11G routers with planar antennae which face each other outside the buildings are not as good.

By adding a Snom Dect Repeater in the far building, I was able to extend beyond my target zone.

Other positive attributes of the handset include a bright screen, good battery life and a full featured menu system. (It is slightly annoying to have to enter the admin code when moving between menus).

On the negative side, the keys on the keyboard are small. I have small hands, and I have some difficulty pressing the right keys. The keys also jiggle. The base would have been improved if it had a switch/hub port to chain the Ethernet to another device. Power over Ethernet would have made it perfect.
