This product makes Skype calls more relaxing for me, I don't feel like I have to shout into the computer Mic to be heard. For the price this is a very good quality phone overall. The sound quality on the speakerphone is excellent. I can stand 6 feet and more and still have a conversation. I bought this phone to work from home and my cord less Uniden 6.0 would drop me all the time and get a "out of range" error. So I need a hard line phone for work that is reliable and this is a great value and I looked for some time.
** The only thing I wish they would change is WHEN YOU MUTE the listeners will hear a click sound which may be an issue when on a work call as another reviewer pointed out but most people don't notice the click. Its not perfect but than again you are not paying over 0 either. I would buy another of these units!
**** UPDATE AFTER USING FOR A FEW WEEKS: I am still very satisfied and keep a 5 star rating for the money its earns a 5 star. Some things to consider 1) As another review mentioned the mute button makes a click sound your callers may hear 2) no back lights on the display 3) does not have ability to notify if you have voice mail - no display message or blinking light other than the new call displayed but than again at night you cant see the display very well. With all this its a solid unit overall!

There are a lot of things to love about this set, and you can read all about them in other reviews. I just want to mention one feature that I really miss. The latest "high-tech" thing in these phones are phone books you can scroll through. More often than not, this replaces the older "low-tech" one-touch speed dial "memory" buttons. The issue comes into play when programming your phone to use calling cards. With calling cards, you dial the 800 #, press another number for your preferred language, another to enter pin, and often a fourth to place a call. With one (or even two) touch speed dial buttons, you can judiciously chain two commands into one speed dial button. For example, assign the 800 # to the first memory location, then when the service answers, you can press the second speed dial memory button which already has programmed both the "1" for english and the pin # so you don't have to wait for each prompt. With my old corldess phone, I can get through the whole process using only two memory button presses. With the phone books in the new phones, this does not work conveniently, if at all. On my old V-tech, if you are already on a calling card call and try to access the next code you have stored in the phone book, the only way to "enter" it is to press talk again, which ends the call or transfers to three-way calling. With this Uniden set, you can do it, but each access to a code has you opening the phone book each time, scrolling to access the code, then hitting menu/select. This is a very inconvenient compared to one-button memory! Why they can't add two or three one-button speed dial buttons to these, I don't know. If you use your phone a lot for making calling card calls and like to have the series of commands daisy-chained in speed dial, this may not be the phone for you. I have V-Tech's that have the same problem.

My product is actually the Coolscan 8000, the predecessor to the 9000. They are almost identical.

I would like to provide solutions for some of the people who have commented negatively about this scanner. First don't even consider using the Nikon software. Simply download VueScan from Hamrick software instead. When considering the cost of this scanner the less than 0 price of VueScan is a pittance to pay for a perfect software that not only masters this scanner but also includes drivers for 1200 other scanners. VueScan is superior to all of the software that comes boxed with scanners. Only one software to learn to become the master of 1200 scanners.

What is more VueScan is available for ALL versions of Windows, MAC-OSX, and Redhat and Ubuntu Linux. I am presently using my scanner with an older Toshiba laptop running Linux. The installation was truly plug and play. Install VueScan, plug in the scanner and begin scanning.

The scanner does run slowly and does make a bit of noise during operation. However, one need only load a batch of film and then walk away until it is finished. I don't find the work flow to be a problem. I can understand that if one has tens of thousands of films and wants them completed immediately that speed is an issue.

My guess is that Nikon are not developing this product any further because the market for film scanners must now be minuscule since digital photography has become a mainstay. If you have a reasonable number of frames to scan over time then this is the scanner to buy, almost regardless of your operating system. Just plan to buy Vuescan for under 0 as well and you will be happy.

Nikon does offer complete servicing for this product but it must be sent to their East Coast facility. They are cordial, communicative, and the repairs are competent.

The adapter works great. The only problem, like LKR wrote, is that your phone needs to be plugged in to your USB port. This also means that your phone is essentially dead until you dial the number on SKYPE. You cannot dial a phone number using SKYPE using your regular phone (you have to purchase a SKYPE phone for this and be corded to your computer).

Once you dial the number from the computer, you can pick up your phone and walk away from it. I live in an apartment, so this isn't a problem for me. But, it I lived in a two- or three-story house and I want to be mobile, I would have to go to the room where the computer is, dial the phone number, and walk back to the room where I want to complete the phone call. This is an inherent problem with SKYPE being a P2P service rather than a VOIP service. IT IS NOT A PRODUCT PROBLEM.

Bought this to replace the original ball on my 8330. It's definitely a real improvement as the original ball had very little traction. What I received looks exactly as advertised, red ball that lights up red. The only challenge I've encountered with this is that it takes putting more pressure on the ball to move the cursor than the original ball - it's almost like the ball is a little smaller and doesn't make good contact unless you add some pressure. Since you have to add more pressure the movement of the cursor on the screen is slower and not as smooth.

Basically the original ball worked eaiser and faster than this one, but this does work and will get you through the screens just fine. This takes a little getting used to and I don't think it's a problem, but you should know if you're looking for a replacement ball that functions as well as the original, you may want to explore other options. If you're looking for a red replacement ball that looks good and functions adequately, this one may be for you. Functionally this product is 3 stars at best, but I gave an extra star for the look.

I travel extensively for my job (self-employed), and use Skype as my office phone number. This is the PERFECT accessory for me. Nine times out of ten I am on the phone I need to access my computer at the same time; hands-free is what is needed. It's tiny (about the size of a thin mouse), extremely light (carry around in your computer bag without a problem), and the audio quality is pretty good, too.

Only downside - I get occasional blue-screens from the driver for this product (running XP Pro, SP3). If you go through 3-4 plug in/unplug cycles then try to use the device for audio in it crashes my system. Yes, it's a pain, but I usually shut down 2-3 times a day (when I travel around), so it's a very rare issue for me. If you sit at your desk all day, and have a limited number of USB ports and need to plug/unplug many times, it may be an issue for you.
